Kiel "Poop Fairy" allegedly exposed as alderperson's husband, latest in a string of incidents

KIEL, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A stinky crime in the town of Kiel is exposing larger concerns with an elected official.

Police are investigating a serial litterer, and now some alderpersons want a colleague removed from the city council.

They've dubbed the bandit the "Poop Fairy."

For weeks a person has been leaving bags of dog poop at a Kiel pet supply store. They say they have it on camera and know who the person is.

At a Tuesday night city council meeting, one woman told the council, "As a business owner myself in Kiel, I am appalled that this is the behavior of one of our own residents."

The store owner said, "For weeks I've been experiencing somebody leaving bags of dog poop at our store."

The owner of Christel's Pet Supplies & More started posting about it on Facebook weeks ago. She called the person the " Poop Fairy" and warned she caught them in the act on her security camera.

"There's a gentleman wearing a reflective vest," she said, "with a small dog, and a yellow something in his hand."

It didn't stop.

"Woop. Up over the porch railing it went. Got him on camera."

She alleged the poop fairy is the husband of council member Kathy Schuette, and said a ticket was issued for littering.

Schuette told us in a statement: "At this point I have not seen an indication of these accusations prior to last night's meeting. No further comment other than that."

Kiel police confirm they are investigating and have the video.

The owner says she's never met Schuette's husband and has no idea why she's being targeted.

The mayor and alders denounced the behavior.

Mayor Bob Hennings said at the meeting, "It's unfortunate. Sorry you had to go through that. I can't believe anyone would do something like that."

And they said it's the latest of several concerning incidents involving the Schuettes.

2nd district alderperson Tyler Guell said, "The recent behavior, conduct of Alderperson Schuette is unbecoming, unprofessional."

Guell wants her off the council. "I hope she's watching. And I'm going to challenge her to step down from her position."

Schuette was not at Tuesday's meeting.

Guell said if Schuette does not step down willingly, he will pursue removing her from the council. That would require approval from five of the six members on the council.

We have messages out to all involved for more information.
