Jury selection begins for man charged with killing Racine Officer John Hetland

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Jury selection started Monday, Sept. 21, for a man charged with killing a Racine police officer. 

Police say Officer John Hetland was killed June 17, 2019, at Teezers bar in Racine, while trying to stop a robbery. 

According to a criminal complaint, Dalquavis Ward and Hetland fought when Hetland tried to stop the robbery, and Ward allegedly shot Hetland once before taking off. 

Officer Hetland was off-duty at the time. 

Ward faces life in prison if convicted.
