'It's great to all be together again': Wauwatosa families celebrate the holidays at Café Hollander
CBS 58 WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The holiday season is here, with every family celebrating in their own way.
"It's just wonderful, it's great to all be together again," said Mary Smith, Wauwatosa resident.
For Mary Smith, this holiday season is all about cherishing those she loves at her favorite local spot, Café Hollander.
"It just means everything to be able to say, this is where we live," said Smith. "This is where we bring all of our friends, and just so we can all be together for the Christmas period."
It's her family's first time together in seven years, with several members flying in from out of the country, eager to experience her hometown.
For Wauwatosa residents, their holiday meal goes beyond the festive lights and good eats. It represents their resilient community, as Café Hollander was among dozens of local businesses and homes damaged in August's historic flooding.
"It's so phenomenal that they were able to bounce back, that the community was able to help out and donate," said Wauwatosa resident Drew Luzi. "When they opened their doors, I think we were one of the first ones to come back and really try to have another meal like we are today."
Grateful to celebrate the holidays at the business residents say has become a part of their family.
"We love Café Hollander, we love this time of year, and it's just special to spend time with these kiddos," said Luzi.
