CBS 58
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — Air quality levels continue to fluctuate in Wisconsin as wildfire smoke lingers across the state.
“The immediate impact is that going outside is extremely hazardous for everybody,” Clean Wisconsin Communications Director Amy Barrilleaux said. “This is a very dangerous situation.”
According to a Clean Wisconsin analysis, there are 250 premature deaths each year associated with wildfire smoke.
“Even though it’s summertime, and I know we all want to, if you don’t have to go outside, do not go,” Barrilleaux said. “Is this summer in Wisconsin now?”
MKE Fresh Air Collective hosted a community workshop Thursday night to help people take extra precautions.
“We are doing an indoor air quality workshop where people are making DIY air cleaners to take home with them,” Danika Hill-Paulus with MKE Fresh Air Collective said.
The DIY air filters are made with a box fan, high-quality HVAC filters and duct tape.
“They’re extremely important for days like today where the air quality is hazardous and excessively bad,” Hill-Paulus said.
