MILWAUKEE, (CBS 58) -- Indy 500 Winner Alex Palou will be at Road America this weekend. And in August? The Milwaukee Mile. What did the 3-time and reigning IndyCar champion think of the return of IndyCar to the Mile last year?
"Yeah, I think it was one of those tracks that created a lot of passing opportunities," Alex Palou says.
"The tire degradation was quite high which made the strategies play a different way for different teams and drivers. So then you'd have therefore more passing because of the different tire mileage and stuff. So it was a fun race to be a part of. It was one of those tracks that you really need to push and you need to put a lot of, yeah, you just need to demand a lot from the car. And it just makes it super fun to drive."
CBS 58 Sports Director Lance Allan asks so since the last time we talked? You kind of a had a somewhat major accomplishment in your life. The Indy 500. What was that like?
"It was the best. It was the best thing. Yeah, pure excitement. Just seeing the emotion from the team around me. And just getting to experience that in front of so many fans was amazing. So yeah, it's for sure the biggest win I've got."
He's won championships. He's won the Indy 500. What's left for Alex Palou to accomplish at his young stage at his career?
"Well I've never won at Milwaukee so winning at Milwaukee would be cool," Palou says with a laugh. "Just another, like the way I take. What I like about racing it's not really the trophies, which is fun. It's like it's the best thing. But it's more like going every single weekend to a different place. And trying to beat our competitors. Trying to beat all other drivers and all other teams. And trying to do the best."
