MILWAUKEE COUNTY (CBS 58) – November marks National Adoption Awareness Month and on Friday, 15 foster families adopted 19 children in Milwaukee County.
Tears of joy filled the courtrooms at the Vel R. Phillips Juvenile Justice Center.
“I’m very excited,” Adoptive mother Lynn Brusnahan said.
Around 17 years ago, the Brusnahan’s adopted Katie. Last year they became foster parents to Katie’s half-sister, Lou. On Friday, through smiles and tears, Lou became a permanent part of the family.
“When we took Louie we thought we were providing a temporary home,” Brusnahan said. “We didn’t know what the future would hold, and the fact that we’ve been able to provide her a permanent home is wonderful.”
According to the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, more than 600 children were adopted from foster care throughout the state last year.
