MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) - At halftime of Marquette's 89-82 loss to Maryland, the program honored one of its former greats.

Jerel McNeal had his jersey unveiled in the rafters. He is the 11th former Marquette player to be honored.

McNeal played for Marquette from 2005-09 being named an AP Second Team All-American as a senior. He also broke a 40-year-old scoring record held by George Thompson to become the program's All-Time leading scorer. His 1,985 points are now third all-time behind Markus Howard (2,761) and Kam Jones (2,044).

McNeal is still the program leader in career steals with 287 and was the 2005-06 Big East Defensive Player of the Year.

He emotionally thanked those that helped his journey, "To my mom and dad, thank you for all your sacrifices. The guys that I walked into this university with, they don't know it but having them here meant everything to me. to the greatest fans in the world, I've never taken more pride in my career than when I put on a Marquette basketball jersey. I never played harder, so we appreciate you, I love you all. Go Marquette!"

Marquette will also honor former coach Tom Crean and Markus Howard later this season.
