'I feel violated': Oak Creek business says they are among several businesses broken into in one night

OAK CREEK, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Some local businesses owners are uneasy after they say a string of break-ins happened all in one night.

“I feel violated,” said Douglas Shulta, the owner of the Butcher Block Meat Market in Oak Creek.

Shulta says he was asleep Tuesday night, Dec. 2, when he woke up to a phone call.

“I got a call at one in the morning from my security department," said Shulta. "They said there’s a motion at the front door.”

Shulta says when he then checked his security cameras and saw nothing. However, when he went to work that morning it was a different story.

"I saw the front door, the deadbolt was outside the wood," said Shulta. "I knew something happened."

When Schulta replayed his security footage, he saw a person break into his store and walk around inside.

"He walked in then obviously went up in the office first, just storage room," said Schulta. "He’s up there for 10, 15 seconds. Walked back down around and got to the back counter. The siren went off and he ran out the front door.”

Schulta says thankfully nothing was stolen or damaged.

Owning the store front for 37 years, he says he was shocked when he found out the same thing happened to several other businesses in the area that night.

"Violated number one," said Schulta. "You know it’s like someone being in your house when they don’t belong there. You know it’s not a good situation ever."

Around three miles away in South Milwaukee, the Tap Room says they were also hit, with their doors damaged and only a bottle of bourbon stolen.

Shulta says he wants the person responsible to be held accountable.

“I just want the Oak Creek Community to be aware that there’s stuff going around there that they don’t know about," said Shulta.

The Oak Creek Police Department says this is an active investigation and couldn't comment further.
