00pm Update: Light snow continues with some slick roads
HURLEY, Wis. (CBS 58) – The Hurley School District Board voted unanimously to discontinue the high school’s use of the Midgets mascot at the end of the 2018-2019 school year.
According to a press release from the school district, the board has been "wrestling for some time with the future of the Hurley Midgets mascot”.
The statement goes on to say the decision was also made to promote inclusion and not send the wrong message to any student or family who is different.
The board says work to select a new mascot will begin later this year.
