MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- To address the increasing demand for food pantries in Milwaukee, Hunger Task Force is expanding its MyPlate-based food assistance program.
Sherrie Tussler, CEO of Hunger Task Force, joined us on Tuesday, March 12 to discuss the organization’s focus on providing fresh, nutritious options to support the local emergency food network with the MyPlate model.
This strategy aims to replace processed items with healthier choices, ensuring those in need receive balanced meals.
Tussler noted that the initiative is a response to rising food insecurity, as evidenced by the increase in pantry reliance from 17,095 individuals in Jan. 2023 to 24,314 in Jan. 2024.
Similarly, meal site usage has grown, with Hunger Task Force looking to expand healthy food options to Milwaukee’s impoverished residents, who the organization claims make up over 17% of the city’s population.
