High speed chase ends in deadly Kewaunee crash

KEWAUNEE (WFRV) - An officer with the City of Kewaunee Police Department took chase after observing a car entering the city eastbound on Highway 29 at a speed in excess of 100 miles per hour.

Although the officer pursued the suspect, they were unable to maintain sight on the vehicle due to the continued high rate of speed.

At this point, the suspect was traveling southbound on First Street.

The officer then continued south on First Street, leaving the City of Kewaunee and transitioning onto Hospital Road.

As the officer continued south on Hospital Road, they saw what appeared to be a one vehicle rollover accident roughly 1200 feet south of Adams Road.

The officer was able to confirm that the car was the suspected vehicle they had been pursuing.

Initial evidence reveals that the car, which was traveling southbound, left the roadway and rolled numerous times.

A report from the Kewaunee County Sheriff's Department says that the suspect, a 21-year-old Kewaunee man, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing his seatbelt.

The suspect was the only person in the car at the time of the accident, and it wasn't explained what caused his death.

The accident remains under investigation.
