MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – With hot temperatures expected tomorrow, June 21, Summerfest will allow people to bring in one plastic sealed water bottle, that is under 20 ounces.
“It can get kind of scorching once in a while and if it gets too hot you either cruise down by the lakefront to cool off or maybe all bets are off if it’s way too hot,” Summerfest attendee Sue Braun said.
Some people taking in the music on Friday night are deciding not to come on Saturday because of the heat.
“80 degrees is manageable, over 90, that’s brutal and we didn't want to be out here,” Summerfest attendee Isabella Kostolni said. “Even with the lake breeze we didn’t know if we could handle that heat.”
Russell Johnston is a client services coordinator with Bell Ambulance; he has worked 10 Summerfest festivals in the past and has seen the impact of the heat up close.
“We’d probably take like 30 to 50 people on some of the bad days,” Johnston said. “Limit your time in the sun if you can get into some shade spots here and there, definitely drink a lot of water.”
The festival will also feature misting stations along with water fountains on Saturday to help people brace the high temperatures.
“We were really excited to come and check out all of the acts, but we wanted to come tonight specifically because we heard about the heat wave tomorrow,” Kostolni said.
