WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- With one week before Wisconsin's state primary, your TV will be flooded with political ads, mostly negative.
GOP strategist Brian Schimming says the millions of dollars spent on ads suggest the gubernatorial primary race is a close one.
"Particularly with the third party money, in this case much of it from out of state, they usually don't spend it unless they need to," he said.
The last Marquette Law Poll suggested a tight race between Tim Michels and Rebecca Kleefisch.
"It would not surprise me if there is 10-12% out there," Schilling said.
Schilling says he does not expect the negative ads to significantly damage the primary winner against the incumbent come November.
"Next Wednesday, people will remember who the real opponent is, and that will be Governor Evers," he said.
