Golf season begins at Milwaukee County courses

WAUWATOSA -- After a cold and snowy winter, the day golf enthusiasts have been waiting for is here--golf season officially begins Thursday at all Milwaukee County Parks golf courses.

About 120 golfers played at Lincoln Park, the county's earliest-opening course, this past Sunday, County Executive Chris Abele said. 

Around 300,000 golfers played Milwaukee County courses last year. 



Weather delayed the opening of the courses by a couple of weeks according to the parks director John Dargle. 



He says the groundskeepers of going to good job getting the grass to be green for golfers today. 



He said there's two courses that are getting new irrigation systems. Some other courses will have renovations done to the club houses.



The biggest challenge is the aging infrastructure of the courses. Dargle said they are slowly making improvements across the county.

\"It is definitely fee based revenues. But supported through tax levy so we're able to be sustainable financially.  But there's a lot of improvements that need to be done to the golf courses but I think you'll find that the courses have been in great condition over the last several years and we've come a long way.\"
