Glendale woman and grandson win more than $20K on 'Wheel of Fortune'
GLENDALE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- It was a dream come true for Glendale resident Gloria Harmon when she got the call to be a contestant on "Wheel of Fortune." To her surprise though, she wasn't invited alone- she was picked for Grandparents edition.
"It was a dream that wow I couldn't even imagine," said Harmon.
Harmon picked her 17-year-old grandson, Isaiah Richards, from Las Vegas, to join her in the experience. The pair took home more than $20,000. On May 26, the episode aired and Harmon's family watched with anticipation.
"It all started by applying obviously, found out it was going to be grandparents show. I chose Isaiah, he's my third oldest grandson and he was excited," said Harmon.
Harmon and Richards won $16,000 cash and a trip to Alaska, the total prize coming out to about $26,000.
Harmon said she's been a die-hard fan of "Wheel of Fortune" for decades. A way she prepared for her time on screen was playing "Wheel of Fortune" on the app, but it didn't hurt she also knew the game inside-out.
She said although the prize and chance to be on her favorite shows was a dream come true, experiencing it with her grandson made it all the more special.
"I don't spend a lot of time with him because of our distance so it meant a whole lot to me," said Harmon.
Harmon said she'll give a portion of her win to her church and to those who need it, while her grandson will put the money toward his education.
