Gas station owners fight possible Kwik Trip opening in Menomonee Falls

MENOMONEE FALLS-- As gas prices go down, there could be more competition coming to Menomonee Falls.  Local business owners are concerned a Kwik Trip could open in an area that has at least nine gas stations in a 2-mile radius.

Many business owners have banded together to keep Kwik Trip from opening a gas station on Main Street and Pilgrim Road.

\"It probably will put us out of business, there's just no way to compete with such a large company,\" said Dominic Allioto.

Allioto and his family began the petition, they own another gas station just down the street from where the proposed Kwik Trip will be located.

\"If this goes out of business, I'm bankrupt,\" said Allioto, pointing toward his gas station.

Allioto says the family owned Citgo is all his family has.

\"The bank will probably end up taking over the property,\" he explained, \"and I will pretty much lose everything I own.\"

Other businesses are also collecting signatures to keep competition out.

\"Our car wash would be one building away from the Kwik Trip,\" said Jason Cee, who works at an automotive business nearby.

Competition may be part of the free market-- but in this case, many business owners feel it's time to go to the Village Board.

\"The Village needs to understand that too much competition is not good for the village, somebody has to go,\" said Allioto.

CBS 58 called Kwik Trip several times, but no one has returned our request for comment.  Business owners plan to voice their concerns at a Village Board meeting on September 9th.
