Milwaukee Fire Department highlights challenges for first responders
MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Governor Tony Evers and LGBTQ members of the state legislature held the first pride month celebration at the state Capitol, Monday.
The governor was joined by Milwaukee Representative JoCasta Zamarripa, an openly bisexual woman and State Senator Tim Carpenter, an openly gay man.
Rep. Zamarripa says Wisconsin has made a lot of changes in support of the LGBTQ community.
"In my lifetime, in our lifetime, the progress towards equality has been staggering. It was just 13 years ago that Wisconsin passed a ban, a constitutional ban against same-sex marriage, and now the vast majority of Wisconsinites support and celebrate marriage equality for all because love is love is love," said Rep. Zamarripa, D - Milwaukee.
The celebration follows the raising of the pride flag for the first time over the state Capitol earlier in June.
