MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Peace Week in Milwaukee continues, and the city's mayor is calling on faith organizations to share their messages of peace beyond their congregations.
"It's not just myself. It's not just the police chief. It's mentors, it's friends, it's pastors, it's parents. Everybody has got to be involved," said Mayor Johnson. "We're asking the faith leaders to do their part."
Mayor Cavalier Johnson hosted faith leaders for an early breakfast Wednesday morning, May 24.
It was an opportunity to share ideas and find new ways of supporting each other as violence continues to rise.
Police data shows more than a dozen shootings have been reported in the last week.
The mayor says places of worship can be a safe haven this summer, especially for young people.
