WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- A $5.9 million investment was announced Monday, Dec. 12, to expand high-speed internet across Wisconsin.
This is part of the "Internet for All" initiative under the bipartisan infrastructure law signed by President Biden in 2021.
Governor Tony Evers was in Milwaukee for the announcement. Evers says investing in broadband to help close the digital divide has been one of his top priorities since taking office back, because it impacts all Wisconsinites.
"It means more business owners can get their products online, more seniors can stay connected with their families, Telehealth can grow, and more kids can get their homework done in their homes," said Gov. Evers.
Evers says the Covid-19 pandemic highlighted the struggle to find affordable and accessible internet for people who live in underserved communities.
The five-year plan aims to make sure no one is left behind.
