Elderly Couple in Caledonia Robbed During Scam
On March 2, at approximately 3:15 PM, an elderly woman was outside shoveling snow outside her home in the 4600 block of Tennessee Road in Caledonia when she was approached by a Hispanic man who told her his father put the roof on her house ten years ago. The man told her he stopped by because the roof was leaking and needed to be fixed. Even through the homeowner's just replaced the roof last fall, the suspect was let into the house.
The woman's elderly husband was inside of the residence. While inside the house, the suspect created a distraction and was unattended in the home. When the victim came back, the suspect was in the kitchen cabinets. The suspect was able to move about the house unobserved by the elderly homeowners by asking about leaks in other places.
After the suspect left the residence, the elderly male stated he was missing money from his wallet. The cordless phone that was under the cabinet that the suspect was in, was unplugged from the wall. The front door that was previously locked was found unlocked after the suspect left.
Police are looking for a full size grey or silver pick up truck with no license plate. The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his late 30s, 5'9", 170 pounds with brown eyes a thin mustache wearing a blue jean jacket and blue jeans.
Two other men were reportedly in the truck and at some point were seen on the front walkway.
