Drunk Driver Crawls into Back Seat after Driving Car into Ditch on I-43

Sunday morning at about 1:50 AM, Milwaukee County Sheriff's deputies responded to a one-car rollover crash near I-43 eastbound just south of 27th Street. When deputies arrived, the vehicle was in a ditch and both the driver and passenger were trapped in the vehicle and needed to be extricated by fire department personnel.

Alex J. Laird’s had a revoked drivers license and was attempting to crawl into the back seat to hide the fact that he was the driver. Both the passenger and Laird were transported to Froedtert Hospital for lacerations.

Both occupants of the vehicle denied driving the car, and said the driver, whose name they did not know, fled the scene.

The fire department had to cut off the roof and windshield to extricate the subjects from the car.

Laird was arrested for second offense DUI, and causing injury while intoxicated, and cited for driving with a revoked license related to a DUI, refusal to submit to chemical tests, and unreasonable and imprudent Speed.

If convicted of the felony and misdemeanor charges, Laird faces up to six and a half years in prison.

The vehicle was towed and the case remains under investigation.
