Driver killed in Caledonia crash was in stolen vehicle, police say

CALEDONIA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- According to police in the village of Caledonia, one person is dead following a crash early Wednesday morning, Jan. 26. 

It happened around 4:49 a.m. near 7 Mile and Frontage Rd. 

Caledonia police say the driver of a stolen 2009 Dodge Caliber was headed northbound on Frontage Rd when it swerved into oncoming traffic, hitting a vehicle driving southbound on Frontage Rd. 

The Dodge Caliber left the roadway and entered the ditch on the west side of Frontage Rd. Life saving measures were performed on the driver, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The driver of the southbound vehicle sustained minor injuries. No passengers were in either vehicle. 


The 2009 Dodge Caliber was previous reported stolen from Mundelein, Illinois.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is assisting the village of Caledonia Police Department with the investigation. 

The man killed has not yet been identified.
