Disabled child allegedly rejected from summer camp

Shepherd, MI (WNEM) -- A family is in shock after claiming their child was not allowed to return to summer camp because of his medical disorder.
Now the little boy's parents are wondering if the day camp broke the law. They do feel like this is a case of discrimination.
Aiden Carter, 6, was enrolled at the West Midland Family Center in Shepherd. His mother, Kori Carter says Aiden was diagnosed with a rare bowel disorder that requires special attention.
Carter says she warned the summer camp about the disorder only to get the news that Aiden was no longer welcome after originally being accepted.
The camp does receive some federal funding, so it's illegal to turn kids away because of a disability.
But camp officials say they do not feel they did anything wrong here. Officials with the camp say that they take necessary steps in order to ensure the safety of all children.They don't believe they're discriminating against Aiden.
Meanwhile, Aiden's mother says she has filed a complaint with the federal government.She says she doesn't want an apology, she just wants to help prevent this kind of situation from happening in the future.
The West Midland Family Center first opened in 1974 and currently has more than 100 children in its summer camp.
