'Create unity and peace:' Community groups hold ‘Day of Healing’ in Kenosha
KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) – Several community groups in Kenosha came together on Wednesday, September 16 for a ‘Day of Healing’.
The groups planned to hand out around 1,000 meals to everyone including older adults and homeless individuals. Volunteers also provided voter registration and other resources to community members.
Event leaders are also standing in solidarity with Jacob Blake and his family while giving back and bringing people together.
“We all die, the goal is not to live forever, but to create something that will,” Peace in the Streets CEO Gregory Bennett Jr. said. “If we create something that will, if we create unity and peace, that the older generations couldn’t do, if we can accomplish it now, then look at what legacy we leave behind for our children’s children’s children.
The groups also delivered food bags to people who could not make it to the event.
