MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Chaos breaks out in a Milwaukee County courtroom on Wednesday.
Claudette Mitchell was being sentenced for the death of a 7-week-old baby girl when a fight suddenly broke out.
Several people were taken into custody because of the fight including the father of the baby who was killed. Claudette Mitchell was caring for Savaiyah Reid in August 2017 when the baby was found unresponsive.
She suffered multiple skull fractures while in Mitchell's care and died as a result. Mitchell was sentenced to three and a half years behind bars with four more years of extended supervision.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office released a statement following the fight:
"An emotional homicide case involving the death of a 2-month-old child resulted in a post-sentencing altercation between about 50 members of the defendant’s and victim’s families and friends. Additional security was in place due to prior contentious hearings, but the defendant’s side did not comply with deputies’ orders to remain in the courtroom while the victim’s family was being escorted out.
Additional deputies and DA investigators were called to the courtroom to restore order. One person was tased by a DA investigator, and another claimed to have been assaulted. MCSO detectives are reviewing video to determine if charges will be filed against any of those involved."
It's unclear whether anyone will face charges for Wednesday's courtroom brawl.
