MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- At Tuesday's coronavirus briefing, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley talked about plans to reopen the courthouse for in-person trials on July 20.
The county is working with health consultants to redesign the courts to follow CDC guidelines.
Crowley said it's "extremely important" to open the courts, to protect peoples' rights to a speedy trial.
He said there's a racial justice issue here as well.
"When you think about our criminal justice system, we know that it has directly impacted many people of color. And because of COVID-19, many of their cases have been postponed. So holding them in this system longer than needed is not doing us any justice."
David Crowley says jury duty summons will start going out as early as next week.
