City leaders table discussion about safety zones in entertainment districts
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee leaders were set to discuss security and safety around downtown entertainment districts Tuesday, but that topic is now off the table.
At Tuesday morning’s full Common Council meeting, Ald. Bob Bauman pulled the file.
The ordinance would have required multiple agencies to draft a plan for security options in entertainment districts like Water Street. Currently, the city is being sued by food truck owners in the same neighborhood after city leaders passed an ordinance limiting food truck operating hours.
Bauman says ongoing lawsuits and silence from community partners is the reason why the agenda item was tabled.
“All these other folks better start weighing in or we’ll start weighing out, to be perfectly blunt,” said Bauman.
Bauman says while the agenda item isn’t tabled indefinitely, it will be quite some time before city officials discuss it once again at the full Common Council.
