CEDARBURG, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Cedarburg Children's Theater will spring back to life this May with a performance of The Little Mermaid.

It will be their first live, on-stage show since 2019. The theater group was set to perform Charlotte's Web in 2020, but because of the pandemic it was forced to be virtual.

"We had to go virtual during the pandemic, like every single theater in the world from London to Broadway. We all went virtual to survive," said Beth Albright, the founder and director of the Cedarburg Children's Theater. "The promise was I'm going to be here after this pandemic and so here we are. The little mermaid goes on stage this spring"

For Albright, the Cedarburg Children's Theater is a passion project. She started it after moving to Cedarburg in 2016, and since opening there have been 12 shows. The theater is unique in that it is an all inclusive theater that can accommodate almost any child. The organization aims to build confidence in all young actors, and every part has at least ten lines in a play.

"Because it does not do a child any good if all their friends have speaking parts and they just don’t get any lines and then they're a tree. So we make sure that everybody has a speaking part. We've heard from so many parents it's helped children by speaking on stage."

Albright is an accomplished actor and writer. She starred in Days of Our Lives. She is a best-selling author and currently writes thrillers. While it has been a rough couple of years for all businesses, she says theaters are especially struggling.

"But we have made it to the other side and plan to begin auditions for our spring production soon," said Albright.

In honor of that excitement, for one week, the people can get 20 percent off registration at the Cedarburg Children's Theater. The discount will allow parents to give their kids the gift of entertainment.

Starting Monday Dec. 13 and through Sunday, Dec. 19. registration will be 20 percent off. Registration will open again in February at full price.

The theater plans to have all 2022 performances to be live, in-person shows, beginning with The Little Mermaid this coming spring, followed by classes, showcases and summer camp, then our Christmas production, A Charlie Brown Christmas!
