'I can't eat, I can't sleep, I'm in shock’: 48-year-old Milwaukee woman killed in pedestrian crash the day after Christmas
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — The day after Christmas, one Milwaukee family says their world changed. Robin Dieringer, 48, was struck and killed while crossing the street.
Jasmine Dieringer said on Friday, her mom had stopped at a gas station but never made it home.
“I haven’t been able to sleep, I haven’t been able to eat, I just feel like I’m in a shock," she said.
Milwaukee police say Dieringer was crossing near 41st and Townsend Friday at 5:30 p.m. when a vehicle hit her.
She was taken to a hospital and later died. Police suspect the driver was impaired.
“The driving recklessly, driving intoxicated, that one poor choice affects so many people,” Jasmine Dieringer said. “The ones I pray for the most are my little siblings, 9 and 12 years old, the day after Christmas. It doesn't make sense.”
Robin Dieringer leaves behind her parents, four children, and three grandchildren.
Jasmine said she holds onto the love her mother gave. “You can see our mom in us, she loved all of us. We were raised loved, loved by our mom,” she said.
Jasmine said she told her mom she loved her a million times on Christmas, never expecting the following day would be her last.
She also said justice for her family means change.
“Justice to me would be that people think twice before they are behind the wheel intoxicated or if they’re driving fast. You’re going to get to your destination. It’s senseless. Justice to me is more than just the one person getting punished,” she said.
Police say the driver involved has been arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.
Jasmine said she hopes accountability reaches beyond the courtroom.
"I hope they feel it in their heart, the pain they caused and there’s lessons learned,” she said.
