CBS 58 checks out Joy Ice Cream Social, iconic Wauwatosa gas station turned ice cream shop

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Longtime Wauwatosa residents wanted to see the 1930s gas station on North Avenue and 84th St. reused and turned into another community staple.

In 2023, Liz Joy stepped in to turn the classic gas station into another classic community space. 

"I live just a couple blocks down, and I've got two young kids, and I'm just thinking, what can we bring to our community as a place for families to gather and come together? And ice cream is just a great unifier," said Joy, the owner of Joy Ice Cream Social.

They opened the doors on July 4, 2023. Since then, lines have wrapped around the building and down the block for local ice cream, homemade waffle cones and community. 

Joy Ice Cream Social is open 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Hours may change with the seasons.
