Carthage College offering extra support following student’s death

KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) – Carthage College is providing extra resources for students and staff following the death of freshman Griffin Schumow.

On Thursday, Schumow was fatally hit by a car near campus. The dean of students, Kimberlie Goldsberry, says Schmow was an environmental science major.

On Friday, a plaque with Schumow’s name on it hung from a flag pole in the heart of campus. The school’s counselors and pastor are working additional hours to help support those grieving.

“For many of them it’s the first time they will come together in class or other spaces on campus to talk about him and that loss,” Goldsberry said.

Leaders from Carthage College are planning to honor Schumow on campus. Plans are still being made.
