Busiest mailing day of the year for U.S. Post Office

MILWAUKEE- At the Milwaukee Postal facility, usually 650,000 cards and letters are processed per day, but on Monday that increased to 2.5 million.

During the entire holiday season it will be about 1.3 million.

December 16th is known as the busiest day of the year for the Postal Service.

The same facility will also process about 390,000 packages by the end of Monday.

The USPS expects a 12 percent increase overall in package volume.

From Thanksgiving until Christmas Eve, they predict 4.8 million cards, letters, and packages will be processed.

Due to more volume, there may also be an increase in mail fraud and theft.
