Burglars open unlocked car and use garage door opener to steal keys and car

BROOKFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- On Saturday morning, September 9, Brookfield Police responded to two burglary complaints where suspects opened unlocked vehicles parked in driveways and then used the garage door openers to gain entry to homes.

The burglaries happened in neighborhoods south of Lisbon Road between Calhoun Road and Brookfield Road.

Once the suspects got into the houses they searched for the car keys and then tried to steal vehicles. The suspects did not take any purses or electronics. 

One car was stolen in two attempts as of noon on Saturday.

The stolen vehicle is a gray 2017 Honda CR-V with Wisconsin license plate TWW-477.

Police are telling citizens to lock their cars and make sure no keys or garage door openers can be seen.

The thefts occur during the darkness of night until as late as 5:30 a.m.
