MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson and other community leaders joined for the kickoff to "Building Up Milwaukee" on Monday, Aug. 11.

The new program, organized by the Department of Neighborhood Services here in Milwaukee, was created to recognize the construction projects happening across our area, and highlight the benefits that they bring to the community both during development, and after they open.

The news conference took place at the site of a new $33 million facility for Carmen Schools of Science and Technology.

"At Carmen, our mission is to prepare every student for a college career and community involvement and family life. This building is a place where that mission comes alive and where young people leave ready to be leaders in every part of their lives, hopefully in our city for years to come," said Aaron Lippman.

Once completed in time for the 2026-27 school year, the new Carmen school will be home to over 1,000 students.
