Briefly drying out after another round of storms and flooding Wednesday evening

NOW: Briefly drying out after another round of storms and flooding Wednesday evening
NEXT:

Wednesday evening into early Thursday morning saw another round of severe storms, likely tornadoes and flash flooding. A radar confirmed tornado happened around Elkhorn in Walworth County. Another funnel cloud was spotted near Janesville. There were a few hail reports but wind damage and power outages were not as impactful as they had been earlier in the week.

Heavy rain quickly became the big story with 2-4" of rain falling in parts of the Milwaukee metro area and most of southeast Wisconsin seeing at least an inch.

All of that rain caused lots of flooded roadways and basements. A flood warning was issued for the those that saw the heaviest rain and includes all of Milwaukee County and parts of Jefferson, Waukesha, Walworth and Racine Counties. The flood warning goes until 1 PM when water is expected to recede.

Now we dry out, at least briefly. Only isolated showers are expected the rest of Thursday morning then we stay dry for at least 24 hours in most areas from midday Thursday to midday Friday. But the next round of rain will return Friday late afternoon and evening through Saturday morning.

This last round of storms will be along a cold front that finally dries us out for the rest of the weekend and the beginning of the week. Storms are expected to be strong and severe as the front moves into western Wisconsin where a Level 3 Enhanced Risk is in place. That Level 3 risk stretches all the way south to Oklahoma as we finally see a weather pattern shift for most of the country. Storms are expected to weaken slightly as they move through southeast Wisconsin with a Level 2 Slight Risk in place for western counties and a Level 1 Risk in lakeside areas.

Any additional rainfall we get will cause flooding so flash flooding and even river flooding are our main threats for Friday evening. Hail and strong winds will also be possible and there is the possibility for a few tornadoes as well, especially in western Wisconsin.

The rain is expected to be heavy with any storms Friday afternoon through Saturday morning. Flooding is, once again, likely with at least a half inch of rain expected for everyone and some getting as many as 1-2" of rain. Anything over that half inch number will likely cause, at least brief, flooding.
