Brewers announce minor league coaching staff

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers have announced their Minor League affiliates’ coaching staffs for the 2018 season.

Rick Sweet will return to manage the Triple-A Colorado Springs Sky Sox for the fourth straight season. He will be joined by pitching coach Fred Dabney, coach Ned Yost IV, athletic trainer Aaron Hoback and strength and conditioning specialist Andrew Emmick, who are all returning. Hitting coach Dave Joppie will join the team after spending last season in the same position with Class-A Carolina.

The Double-A Biloxi Shuckers will once again be led by manager Mike Guerrero. The Shuckers will have a new pitching coach, Dave Chavarria, and a new hitting coach, Al LeBoeuf. Chavarria joins the team after spending the last five years at the organization’s Class-A level, while LeBoeuf spent the last year in the same role with the Sky Sox. They will be joined by coach Chuckie Caufield, strength and conditioning specialist Nate Dine and athletic trainer Kevan Creighton, who are all returning.

Joe Ayrault returns for his seventh season as manager of the team’s Class-A affiliate. He will be joined by returnees coach Edwin Maysonet, athletic trainer Jeff Bodenhamer and strength and conditioning specialist Jonah Mergen. In addition, Bob Milacki will serve as the team’s pitching coach, while Sandy Guerrero will come on as hitting coach. Milacki spent the last three years as a pitching coach in the Washington Nationals organization, while Guerrero served in the same role at Biloxi.

Manager Matt Erickson will return for his eighth season at the helm of the Class-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Pitching coach Steve Cline, hitting coach Hainley Statia and athletic trainer Jeff Paxson will all return to the team. Connor McCarthy will be the team’s strength and conditioning specialist in his first year with the Crew.

For the third straight year, the Helena Brewers will be led by manager Nestor Corredor. He is joined by pitching coach Rolando Valles, hitting coach Liu Rodriguez and athletic trainer Matt Deal, who are all returning. Lucas Weitzel rounds out the staff as the team’s strength and conditioning specialist.

Rafael Neda will lead the Arizona League Brewers for the second time this summer. He will be joined by returning coaches Tony Diggs, who previously managed the team (2008-12 and 2016), and hitting coach Brenton Del Chiaro, as well as strength and conditioning specialist Juan Rodriguez. Josie Harding will return as the team’s athletic trainer after she joined the organization last year.

Victor Estevez enters his sixth season with the Dominican Summer League Brewers and third as manager. Pitching coach Victor Moreno, hitting coach Luis de los Santos and coach Jose Peña return to the team. Athletic trainer Benny Arroyo and strength and conditioning specialist Hector Sanchez also return in the same roles.

The Brewers and Cleveland Indians will pair up again to create a joint Dominican Summer League team. Manager Alcides Melendez and pitching coach Jesus Hernandez will help with the joint squad. They will be joined by hitting coach Nick Stanley, who joins the Brewers after previously working as a coach at St. Petersburg College. Mathew Collazo and Luis Rios will return as the team’s athletic trainer and strength and conditioning specialist, respectively.
