'Big in big moments': Hometown athlete Jack Gohlke shines bright at NCAA tournament

PEWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A hometown athlete is making big waves in the NCAA tournament.

Thursday night Pewaukee's Jack Gohlke, a basketball player for Oakland University wowed the crowd with his impressive 3-point shooting surprising tournament fans across the country.

Gohlke hit not one, but 10 3-point shots against the Kentucky Wildcats, during the NCAA tournament game.

"He's hitting some of the most contested, you know, most difficult 3's I've ever seen someone make so I think that's what put it over the top," said Josh Swanson a longtime friend and former high school basketball teammate of Gohlke's.

Swanson went on to say the 6'4 player has always had the sauce.

"He's always just gone out and played his game and just done his best and he's been big in big moments," said Swanson.

Those big moments caught the eye of another Pewaukee prodigy, JJ Watt, the former NFL star posting on X in part: "woke up in London to see that a kid from Pewaukee torched Kentucky to lead Oakland."

"It gives me goosebumps just thinking about it, it was so fun to watch," said Marty Van Hulle a former principal from Pewaukee High School.

Van Hulle said the sixth- season senior matched Thursday night's performance before.

"Wauwatosa West when he had 10 threes in that game, and when he gets on a heater like that it's almost comical, because you just think every shot going to go in no matter where he shoots it," said Van Hulle.

14th-seeded Oakland knocking off 33rd-seed Kentucky showed that anything is possible during March Madness

CBS 58 spoke with Gohlke's dad he said jack is quote “locked in” for Saturdays game against NC State.
