Badgers freshman to redshirt 2016-17 season

MADISON, Wis. – Freshman forward Aleem Ford announced on Friday his intentions to redshirt the 2016-17 season for the Wisconsin men's basketball team.

A native of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Ford spent the 2015-16 season as a post-graduate player at IMG Academy in Florida, where he averaged 13.9 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. As a prep at Archer High School in Lawrenceville, Ga., Ford earned All-Region 8-AAAAAA honors after averaging 14.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocks as a senior.

“I’m looking forward to using this season to get stronger and improve my game,” Ford explained. “I talked it over with the coaches and we all agreed that this would be the best decision for me and my future. The coaches think I have a lot of potential and this redshirt year will be good for me. I will still travel to all the road games and now my role is to be the best scout team player I can be and get my teammates ready for games.”
