Applications to Decorate Wisconsin Christmas Tree are Open

Friday, Governor Scott Walker began accepting applications to decorate Wisconsin’s 2015 National Christmas Tree Display. Every year, the Governor selects a professional artist to work with a youth arts class or program to create ornaments, which will be displayed on Wisconsin’s National Christmas Tree in Washington D.C.

“It’s always a lot of fun to see what Wisconsin artists and youths come up with every year for our National Christmas Tree,” Governor Walker said.  “We look forward to selecting the artist and school that helps us to decorate the tree each year, and this year’s theme of Wisconsin Sports is one that is very near and dear to the hearts of many Wisconsinites.  Wisconsin boasts a diverse array of sports and talented teams and athletes.  Recognizing our strong sports traditions will make our state tree one of the most spirited in our nation’s capital this year.”

Once awarded, the artist or art teacher will work with youth from his or her community to decorate globes, which are provided by the National Park Foundation.

The theme for this year's Christmas tree is 'Wisconsin Sports'.
