Amtrak Service Disrupted by Train Derailment
Service on Amtrak Empire Builder Train 7 has been impacted by derailment of a Canadian Pacific train. As a result, Train 7 will return to Chicago. The train will resume service Sunday evening with a detour from Chicago to LaCrosse.
Train 7 was traveling westbound on its journey to Seattle and had 148 passengers when it stopped due to the derailment. The train travels daily between Chicago and Seattle.
Amtrak is providing alternate transportation for passengers traveling to destinations between Chicago and LaCrosse such as Milwaukee and Wisconsin Dells.
On Sunday, a train carrying crude oil derailed and began leaking in Watertown, Wisconsin forcing 35 homes to evacuate. The track the train was traveling on is the same track used by Amtrak every day to travel from Chicago to Seattle.
