About 30 Displaced After Apartment Fire

About 30 people are without a place to stay following an apartment complex fire around 5 p.m. Tuesday.  According to the Milwaukee Fire Department, the fire was confined to one apartment in the two-story, 16 unit complex near 39th and Hopkins, but the residents of the building could not return to their apartments.  They are being assisted by the Red Cross.

While the exact cause has not been determined, Milwaukee Fire officials suspect that a space heater may have been the source of the fire.  The cold weather made it difficult for firefighters to battle the blaze.  Some of the pumps froze, but they were able to put out the fire without anyone getting hurt.
