Winter is done! (At least on paper.) Thursday marked the start of spring with the spring equinox that officially happened at 4:01 AM on Thursday, March 20.
Earlier in the week we hit 12 hours of daylight time so on this first day of Spring with a sunrise time of 6:54 AM and a sunset time of 7:04 PM our total daylight time has now surpassed 12 hours and 10 minutes.
It will be a chilly start to spring with highs only reaching the upper 30s for most of southeast Wisconsin Thursday. There's only one mild day in the first days of spring on Friday with highs reaching into the 50s. The rest of the next 7 days looks chilly with highs in the upper 30s and low 40s.
The wind will stay strong to welcome in spring with wind gusts to 40 mph but a northwest wind to bring in the chilly air. The wind shifts to the southwest Friday and stays gusty to 35 mph. Finally on Saturday the wind dies down a bit from 5-15 mph.
