Sheriff: Milwaukee man carrying cocaine, marijuana in vehicle arrested after calling for help during winter storm

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Officials say a 27-year-old Milwaukee man is in custody after a sheriff's deputy recovered drugs and a "large amount of cash" from a vehicle he was driving during Wednesday's severe winter weather.

According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, the man called to report he had accidently driven into the ditch on US Highway 45 near Western Avenue just after 9:30 p.m.

The responding deputy reported smelling a strong odor of burnt marijuana from the vehicle before recovering nearly a pound-and-a-half of marijuana, as well as cocaine, multiple cellphones, a scale and cash.

Authorities say the driver was on felony parole for firearms and drug charges, and had previously been arrested and convicted for discharging a firearm into a vehicle and/or building and possession of cocaine with intent to deliver.

The suspect was arrested and is in custody at the Washington County Jail.
