MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A child allegedly involved in the abduction of her sibling was in juvenile court Monday, where the judge denied requests for release.

The 12-year-old girl is facing two charges connected to the kidnapping of her 4-year-old brother last week.

Family told us the child had a gun during the kidnapping.

The girl's lawyers asked the court to drop charges, arguing the girl was acting to protect her brother. Her defense team also asked for release.

The court commissioner denied both requests, arguing it's safer for the child to stay in custody.

A plea hearing is set for next week.
