1 dead, 1 injured in single-vehicle crash in Kenosha

KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- One person is dead and another hurt following a crash in Kenosha overnight. 

It happened just after midnight, Aug. 3, when the Kenosha Police Department responded to the area of 60th Street and 14th Avenue. 

Officials say a vehicle reportedly struck a fire hydrant and a tree. 

The driver, a 26-year-old Kenosha resident Valentin Chapa Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene. 

One passenger in the vehicle, identified as a 25-year-old Illinois woman, was trapped and needed to be extricated from the vehicle. She was treated for a broken arm.

Due to the crash resulting in a fatality, the Kenosha County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) responded to investigate.

At this time, the cause of the accident is still under investigation.

The roadway was closed for approximately five hours while authorities responded to the scene.
