Wrapping up our snow season after historic snow records pass
Over the weekend we saw a few historic record late snowfall records pass. May 10, 1990 was a snow storm that you definitely remember if you lived in Wisconsin. We saw over 4" of snow in many locations. The storm saw historic tree and power outages as many trees had already leafed out and the heavy snow brought them down.
That May 10th storm goes down as the latest inch of snow or more that Milwaukee has ever picked up. The latest measurable snow, defined as a tenth of an inch or more, happened over the weekend as well on May 11th of 1966. But we still have a few weeks to go until we get to the latest flurries on record which was May 31 of 1889.
Unless we get a surprise snow, our last date for snowfall this year will go down as April 7th which is a little later than last year's latest snow but earlier in the average. No late snows in April this year like we had in 2021, '22, and '23.
This winter season was below average for the second year in a row. On average, Milwaukee gets just over four feet of snowfall during the late fall through early spring months. This year we had a foot and a half less than that with 30.3" of snow officially. It goes down as the 29th least snowy winter on record.
