Kenosha veteran attacked and carjacked by 2 teenagers while Ubering
CBS 58 KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Kenosha veteran is still recovering after he says he was threatened, attacked and carjacked by two teens while Ubering.
"Two teenagers against a 60-year-old," said Paul Kloiber. "Not exactly an even match.”
On March 14, Kloiber says he was on his way to pick up his last Uber ride of the night, when things took a turn for the worse.
"When I pulled up and went to verify the name, they yanked my door open and started trying to pull me out of the car,” said Kloiber.
Kloiber says two teens dragged him out of his car while yelling at him.
“Phone, phone, leave the phone," said Kloiber. "I’m going to shoot you and that kind of stuff.”
He says once they got him out of his car, they drove off in it, leaving him behind and having to flag down someone for help.
"A lot of pain," said Kloiber. "The hip is messed up. I had arthritis in the hip, but now there’s something far more wrong with it. I can’t walk without the cane. The elbow has a hairline fracture. My wrist and my hand, and my knee were bruised and swollen.”
Kloiber says police arrested both the suspects and when he finally got his car back, it had thousands of dollars' worth of damage.
"A big gash down the side here," said Kloiber. "It’s missing some trim on the front, all the wiring inside where the dash cam was and where the LED panels were, it’s all been ripped out and it’s pretty much trash.”
Kloiber says he is also facing more than $10,000 dollars' worth of medical bills.
He says when he called Uber to see if they would help cover the cost of his medical bills or his car that was damaged while providing services, it wasn't the answer he was expecting.
"They are not going to cover any part of the medical," said Kloiber. "They’re claiming this was an uninsured motorist and they’re denying the claim and if I want the body damage fixed on my car, it’s a $2,500 deductible."
CBS 58 reached out to Uber regarding the incident, and a spokesperson provided the statement below:
“We are deeply disturbed by this brazen act of violence and are continuing to look into this report. We banned the rider account as soon as this was reported to us and reached out to police to offer our assistance."
