Carmen Lerma was recently discharged from University Hospital after a long battle with COVID-19.
Video from UW-Health shows an emotional exit from the hospital in Madison.
She thanked nurses as they all said goodbye as she was being wheeled out.
After four months, Lerma was reunited with her family and friends.
Lerma and her family said they were overjoyed to see each other.
Lerma has since written a letter to the family of the person whose lungs she now has, and expressed her gratitude for the gift of life they gave her. Doctors say she still has a long road to recovery, but they are encouraged by the progress she's made so far.
