Woman spears 92-pound sturgeon on opening day

LAKE WINNEBAGO, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A good luck charm helped a woman spear a 92-pound sturgeon on opening day of the 2020 season on Lake Winnebago.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Brandi Lefeber walked onto Lake Winnebago from her family farm with a deer antler as a good luck decoy and preceded to spear the nearly 100-pound sturgeon from inside her tent shanty.

Congrats, Brandi!

The DNR says because of the hit-or-miss conditions, poor water clarity and a snowstorm, harvest on both Lake Winnebago and the upriver lakes lagged behind traditional weekend harvest numbers.

The shanty count was considerably less than last year.
