Woman accused of shooting Concordia University student pleads not guilty

Milwaukee County Jail

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The woman accused of shooting and killing her friend back in November pled not guilty in court Friday, Jan. 9.

Jamica Mills, 32, is facing a first-degree reckless homicide charge.

Police say she shot and killed her friend, 26-year-old Ariel Spillner, after becoming paranoid while smoking marijuana together.

Spillner was a student at Concordia University studying to be a pharmacist.

According to the complaint, Spillner and Mills were friends for about a year and they were hanging out on Nov. 4, smoking weed together.

Mills told police that Spillner cut her dog's hair with scissors and became paranoid that Spillner would stab her.

She then went to her bedroom, grabbed the firearm and shot Spillner after Mills saw her making a hand motion, according to the complaint.

Mills's next court date is a scheduling conference on Feb. 19.
